A dot after the name marks a symbol you changed. Until you change it, a centred form follows its rhyme form.
Choose a stroke (A, B, C) or a mark and what a drag moves, then drag anywhere on the canvas; everything else stays locked. The filled point is where the brush starts. Shift while moving a point keeps the length, Alt stops snapping; the arrow keys move in small steps.
